Egberts Blend

Each year the National Coffee Association of USA publishes its report on national trends in drinking coffee. The report has become one of the bibles coffee industry. The 2008 report was recently made available, and NCAUSA website provides a brief summary of what the organization has discovered about how Americans like coffee. Here are some highlights of the 2008 Coffee Drinking Trends report:

  • 17% of the population adult consumes a gourmet beverage on a daily in 2008 and 14% in 2007.

Drinking gourmet coffee has become a national pastime. It's not just the explosion of Starbucks throughout the country that is feeding, but their marketing has certainly awakened the taste of a generation. These days, you can buy your gourmet coffee, in any number of places. Here are just some of the new 'outlets for gourmet coffee.

    • McDonald's, which began sale of Newman's Own organic coffee some time, has started marketing the McDonalds CafĂ© concept, with coffee, cappuccino and gourmet coffee McDonalds from January 2008.
    • Burger King's brand BKJoe is roasted by Douwy Egberts, the coffee roaster, the second largest in the world, expressly for BK.
    • Target, the nationwide chain of department stores, packages and distributes its own brand of gourmet coffee and single origin.
    • Shop 24, a large tent on the East Coast of the desirability of the chain, offers Green Mountain Roasters gourmet coffee in all its stores.
    • 7-11, chain national convenience stores, has made the gourmet coffee bar in the central part of its new store design and offers a wide range of variety of ready to wear coffee consumers in the race.

Another factor in the increased consumption of gourmet coffee is the popularity of single-service coffee systems, which make it easier to sip gourmet coffee at home every morning. The Senseo, Tassimo and Keurig systems have all increased sales and cafes according to their gourmet line of coffee. Here are some more highlights of the report:

  • Adults 25-59 led to the recovery with 19% of the drinkers of gourmet coffee a day. This is an increase of six percentage points since 2007.
    • In the young adult population, consumption Coffee fell last year in that age group, with 44 percent reporting they drink coffee as opposed to 47 percent last year.

    • Moreover, 18 to 24 year olds are becoming serious coffee drinkers. In 2005, only 26 percent of young adults in that age bracket are viewed coffee drinkers. In 2007, that figure rose to 37%, making the coffee market of 18-24 year olds the fastest growing segment of market. Older adults in the age bracket of 40 to 59 years, are also big coffee drinkers. This age group increased from 59 percent to 61 percent the previous year and those over 60 years, the report of most coffee consumers – 74 percent of adults in this age group reported drinking coffee every day.

  • Consumption of cups per day by consumers age 18-24 continued trend high in 2008. Young adults who drank coffee consumed an average of 3.2 cups per day compared with 3.1 in 2007, a significant increase over to 2005 level of 2.5 cups per day.

Our generation grew up thinking of coffee as a morning pick-me-up and after taking dinner only for adults. The age group 18-24 years had a different view of coffee, thanks to the culture of the cafeteria. When older generations gathered at the soda shop, these guys are the local coffee shop instead of meeting in the afternoon. Starbucks and other local chains improved their coffees with flavors, sugar and many creams. This makes his coffee more appealing to younger audiences. Like the children who graduate from high school and go to college, they find that their love of coffee moves with them.

    • Last year consumption of iced and frozen coffee significantly from 2007 levels.
Perhaps the marketing heavy? Nothing tastes as good on a hot summer afternoon, as a large glass of iced coffee, but until recent years, who knows? These days you can get your iced coffee review your local McDonald's, Burger King or Dunkin Donuts, or you can prepare yourself at home. The most popular coffee drinks and ice cream ice are:
    • Dunkin Donuts, who claim that practically invented iced coffee, has been selling its iced coffee for years. Late 90s, Coolata coffee is added, which could be topped with whipped cream.

    • Wawa, a popular convenience store located in parts of New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland and Virginia is a popular place for coffee enthusiasts in the states of the east coast. They have sold over 195 million cups of coffee. Wawa uses their own blend of coffee beans and coffee-making quality a top priority.

All these trends show that coffee coffee is a popular drink among many age groups and is part of American culture. Over the years, these trends change while coffee was introduced to demography again. Overall, Americans enjoy coffee daily and everyone has their favorite place to get your dose of coffee. About the Author:
